How To Apply Court Marriage. Requirements for a Court marriage:
Marriage may be concluded between a man and a woman on the following conditions:
- If the man and the woman agree to accept one another as husband and wife,
- If the man and the woman are not relatives, punishable by the law on incest,
- If a matrimonial relationship of both the man and the woman does not exist,
- If both of them have reached twenty years of age.

Court Marriage Registration Process in Nepal:
Step 1 – Both applicants duly fill out an application and sign in their respective presence.

For any foreign citizen willing to conduct a court marriage in Nepal, the following documents must be presented in addition to the Nepalese ones;
Similarly, if a foreign citizen wants to marry a Nepali citizen, he must bring his country’s recommendation and he must also be eligible to marry according to the laws of the respective country.
- No Objection letter from the respective embassy or consulate to get married in Nepal. This shall be translated into Nepali by the Notary Public.

- Proof of External residing in Nepal for at least 15 days
- Copy of passport with valid visa.
In Nepal, there is a rule that a boy and a girl must be 20 years old for marriage, in the case of foreigners, there is a legal provision in the respective country about the age at which marriage can be done.
For this, a copy of the legal provisions of the respective country related to marriage, translated into Nepali language according to the law, should be submitted along with the application.
In the case of Nepali, photocopy of unmarried certificate and citizenship, in case of foreigner, copy of unexpired passport and Nepali visa, 7 and 7 copies of passport size photograph of boy and girl of the concerned embassy or country should be attached along with the police report as required.
A court marriage can be performed by the concerned district court where the boy and girl are domiciled within Nepal and by the embassy or consulate general of Nepal abroad.
When marrying abroad, an application should be submitted to the concerned Embassy or Consulate General of Nepal by disclosing all the above-mentioned details. To apply, a boy or a girl or both must have stayed in the country where the embassy or consulate general is located for at least fifteen days before applying.
If there is an application of a boy and a girl for court marriage, the relevant officer of the embassy should investigate the matter and decide whether or not the marriage will happen within 7 days from the date of the application. There is a provision in the law that if the relevant official located abroad has any doubts about the proposed marriage, he should submit it to the Nepal government and make it according to the decision of the Nepal government.
If it is decided to marry between the petitioners, the concerned officer shall prepare an open marriage agreement including the matters mentioned in the application and the parties to the marriage are allowed to accept each other as husband and wife according to the law, and shall have them and the witnesses present in his register to sign the consent letter. .
After signing the consent letter, the relevant officer should register such marriage in the registration book and make the signature of himself and the party to be married and also the witnesses present. After registering the marriage, the concerned officer shall give the marriage registration certificate to the parties of the marriage registration in the prescribed format according to the prevailing law. A boy and a girl will be considered married from the day they get the marriage registration certificate.
