election update: All-party meeting being held in Chitwan 2
A replacement meeting is being held on Monday morning at 8 o’clock for the counting of votes for the by-election held on Sunday in Chitwan Region No. 2. Last night, it was said that an all-party meeting would be held after the ballot boxes were counted. Assistant Election Officer of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer Ishwar Acharya informed that an all-party meeting has been called this morning. In the notice issued by him, the candidate or two representatives of the candidate have been called to a meeting at 8 o’clock this morning.
The parties including Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) said that the meeting could not be held on Sunday night because the Chief District Officer was not present. It is said that the counting process will start only after the meeting. Chairman of Congress Chitwan, Rajeshwar Khanal, accused the National Independent Party candidate of violating the code of conduct under the protection of the Chief District Officer and said that the vote count will not be done until the answer is received.
In Chitwan 2, voting was done in 138 centers in 43 locations. It has the preliminary data of 78,277 voters voting. There were 124,695 voters in this area. Out of which 63,291 women, 61,403 men and one third gender.
In this region, 22 candidates including Jeet Narayan Shrestha of Congress from Democratic Left Alliance, Ram Prasad Neupane from UML and Ravi Lamichhane from Rashtriya Swatantra Party are in the field. The by-election was held after the Supreme Court annulled the election of Lamichhane, who was elected in the election held on 4th of November, due to his citizenship. There are three constituencies in the district.
